Questions and Answers

Q:  Why doesn’t the LED flash when a PIR is triggered ?
A:   When configured for normal operation the LED will not flash when movement is detected in order to conserve battery power and maximize battery life. If the LED does flash then this indicates a low battery level or a tamper violation.

Q:  I'm having some trouble recording messages ?
A:  When you record your messages make sure you speak very clearly and with no background noise at all.The ideal distance of your mouth from the microphone is about 15 cm facing directly towards it.If you're not happy with the recording just go over it again until you are satisfied. The new recording will over-ride the previous one.

Q:  What do you suggest I record for my address message ?
A:   You have a recording length of 8 seconds for your address message. We suggest you record something similar to the followingexample: " This is John Citizen the alarm at our residence 123 smith street has been activated please respond immediately"

Q:  What should I record for the specific alarm messages ?
A:   Because you only have a recording length of 3 seconds for these messages they have to be short. We recommend for the burglar message just record "Burglar Burglar"
for the fire message just "Fire Fire" or if you have a water sensor installed this will report using the fire message also.
If so we recommend recording a message as follows "Alert Fire or Water" .
Once again short and sweet for PA and for the emergency something like "Hurry Medical Emergency"

Q:  When I add a device name how do I insert a space between words ?
A:   Example you want to add a PIR and name it BEDROOM 1 ,First add the letter B wait approx 3 seconds and the curser will jump to the next position to then allow you to add the next letter.
Continue these steps until you have entered the last letter being M ,wait the 3 seconds until the curser has jumped along one space.
Now press the 0 key twice, this will bring up a blank space wait 3 seconds again and the curser will jump along ready for you to enter the number 1 symbol. That's it finished, then press OK. (If you make a mistake at any time,to go back one space just press the delete key which is below the down arrow key)

Q:   I have noticed an “Out of Order “ fault message on a device that should be working ?
A:   This occurs if the device is out of radio range or has developed a problem. First try removing the device from the system and adding it once more. Also try to shorten the distance between the device and the main control panel.

Q:  The system is reporting a low battery situation on a new installed device ?
A:   Yes this can sometimes occur, usually it is only a bad connection with one of the device batteries.
First of all remove the device from the system, take out the batteries wait for 1 minute re-insert them again and learn in the device once more to rectify the problem.

Q:  What is the best location for the main control panel ?
A:   The main control panel where possible should be fixed to a wall at about chest height using the supplied cross bracket in order to obtain maximum transmitter range. The system will still work lying on a bench or similar location but this will reduce a
detector's radio range from the main unit.  Make sure to do a WALK TEST with the system before you permanently mount any of the components to make certain all works correctly.

Installing A Door/Window Contact

This is by far the best way to fit a door/Window contact.

The main body of the contact where possible should always be fitted to the doorframe, to eliminate vibration caused by the door closing.

The magnet should be fixed to the door and be no more than 20mm from the detector when the door is closed.

Windows can be protected in a similar way. When fitting to a window fix the magnet to the opening section and the main component to the frame.

If you are in a fairly hot climate it is advisable to fix the door contact using the supplied screws. Sometimes excessive heat can result in the double-sided tape letting go and causing a tamper condition resulting in an alarm activation.

Door frames are not all the same.

Architraves unfortunately will vary a lot in size, shape and thickness. It may be necessary to rebate a section out of the doorframe to fit the contact.
Or even a small packer under the magnet to bring it up level in-line with the door contact

You may find that your best option is using a wired extension terminal as shown in the
pictures below.
Call your supplier for details on these.

Sometimes you will have no option but to fix the main body of the contact to the door itself as shown here in this picture.

Installing PIR Detectors

To prevent false alarms there are a number of rules to follow when installing PIR detectors.

Locate the detectors at least 2 meters away from any interior lights, to avoid possible interference. Install the detector at the recommended height of about 2.4 m on a rigid even surface.

Avoid locating detectors in areas, which contain equipment that may change the environment temperature rapidly. For example: Above heaters

Do not install where the  PIR is in or facing direct/ reflected sunlight, windows onto main roads  (car headlights)  or strong draughts.  Ensure that there are no obstructions (plants, screens, furniture etc)
in the field of  view which may  cause incorrect cover / operation of the PIR detector.

Occasionally apply some insect surface spray around the PIR (not over the lens) to prevent spiders from crawling across the front of the detector.  PIR detectors are more sensitive to motion passing across the detection zone than toward the unit.

Important Note:   Pir's are not waterproof and must only be installed indoors
